San Giovanni in Foro
Nella chiesa di San Giovanni in Foro si trova una piccola curiosità. La chiesa di San Giovanni in Foro a Verona presumibilmente risale al XII secolo. Sorge lungo corso Portoni Borsari, elegante via pedonale della città.
L’esterno presenta una sepoltura in marmo, con croce e stemmi e un trittico sovrapposto. Il campanile è in cotto.
Parte preziosa della chiesa è considerato il portalino rinascimentale, scolpito da Gerolamo Giolfino, recante ai lati dell’arco e alla sua sommità le statue dei Santi Giovanni Evangelista, Pietro e Giovanni Battista.
All’interno della bellissima Chiesa si trova un piccolo presepe con piccolissime statue, creato dai soldati durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, nel 1917.
La chiesa si era resa disponibile come luogo di accoglienza e cura dei feriti e sicuramente uno o più soldati hanno realizzato il piccolo presepe durante la loro degenza. Non si conosce quale materiale sia stato utilizzato, ma si presume che le statuine siano in gesso. L’opera è sigillata in una vetrinetta e non è mai stata toccata.
Sotto alla vetrinetta si legge: “Presepio e statue fatte manualmente dai soldati presenti in questa chiesa, diventata ospedale militare, nel Natale di guerra del 1917.”
Poche persone sanno anche che nella chiesa è stato recentemente collocato, accanto all’altar maggiore, un pendolo di Foucault. Si tratta di una realizzazione del 1987, opera dell’artista Giovanni Cavalleri, cui si deve anche il mosaico che ne costituisce il quadrante, ispirato all’antico mosaico della grotta di Conone a Nazareth (Basilica dell’Annunciazione).
Il pendolo di San Giovanni in Foro compie un’oscillazione completa in 5,8 secondi.
In realtà esso non torna mai nella posizione iniziale, ma risulta spostato lateralmente di qualche millimetro.
Oscillazione dopo oscillazione, questi lievi spostamenti si accumulano e dopo un’ora si può osservare una rotazione del piano di oscillazione. Se la terra fosse ferma, il piano di oscillazione del pendolo rimarrebbe sempre costante.
